Local Organizations Unite to Share Hope During Suicide Prevention Month A united message of support, connection, and care for our community
La Grande – This September, communities across the nation will recognize Suicide Prevention Month. Here in Union County, Grande Ronde Hospital & Clinics, together with CHD, the City of La Grande, Eastern Oregon University, Elkhorn Media Group, La Grande Police Department, La Grande Fire Department, La Grande School District, Union County Safe Communities Coalition, Union County Commissioners, and the Union County Sheriff’s Department, are joining forces to share a single, powerful message: You are not alone. Hope is here.
Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States, affecting people of all ages, backgrounds, and circumstances. Yet research shows it can be prevented through awareness, compassion, and access to resources. That is why local organizations are collaborating to reduce stigma, raise awareness, and connect individuals with support.
“When we stand together as a community, we create strength through connection and resilience through care,” said Jeremy Davis, President and CEO of Grande Ronde Hospital and Clinics. “No one should carry their struggles alone—support and resources are available, and healing is possible.”
Throughout September, the partners will share a coordinated message through digital billboards, press, and social media outreach. The campaign encourages individuals to check in with themselves and those around them, and to seek help when needed.
“At Eastern Oregon University, our Counseling Center, Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, and Master of Social Work program stand united in reminding our community that hope is here, support is available, and no one has to face their struggles alone,” said Suzannah Moore-Hemann, Government Relations and University Advancement Operations Manager for Eastern Oregon University.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and speak with a trained counselor—available 24/7 at no cost. Locally, you can also reach the CHD Mobile Crisis team anytime, day or night, by calling 541-962-8800, option 6 for phone or in-person support.
